Aside from aluminium and steel, circuit boards from televisions or monitors contain approximately 20 % copper. Small traces of precious metals are also present. On account of the low copper content, there is no economic justification to use waste from these applications directly in copper refineries.
At our Canadian customer GEEP Inc. (Global Electric and Electronic Processing) in Barrie/Ontario these circuit boards are therefore processed in hamos ERP electronic waste processing line. Sheet steel, frames and other coarse metal parts are firstly separated in a hamos ERP I line. The coarse pre-shredded circuit board material then goes into the hamos ERP II electronic waste processing line and is broken down further there by a heavy hammer mill. An additional shredding stage produces optimal breaking down to obtain clean metal concentrates. After the material has been sieved into different fractions, gravity separators produce metal concentrates in large particle size. hamos KWS electrostatic separators separate out the metal fraction from the fine particle material. The metal concentrates produced can be easily used in copper smelting and thereby to be processed further into high-grade pure metal.
