| Separation of black plastics - a challenge Recycling plastics can be used as valuable materials for new products, if they consist of pure fractions and are free from contaminants. Physical differences (density, colour, shape, or other differences) are used to separate plastics. For some applications there have been up to now no suitable separation process. This is also the case for PS and ABS from recycling of electronics waste. These plastics exhibit almost the same specific gravity and approx. 70% of them consist of black plastics - an insoluble problem for conventional sorting processes. hamos has the solution for which recyclers have already been waiting for a long time: such black plastics can be cleanly separated with the aid of electrostatic separation technology. This results in ABS and PS plastics with purities of 98.5 percent and better. hamos is the only company worldwide that supplies plant for separation of black plastics. |
