Requirements for your material

In order to obtain an optimum separation result with the hamos EKS, the plastic mixtures to be separated must have the following characteristics:

  • Mixture of non-conductive materials
  • Completely disintegrated material (no composite materials)
  • Different tribo-electric charging behaviour
  • Dry material (ideal surface moisture < 0.4 %)
  • Dust-free material
  • Particle size between 2 and 12 mm
  • Ideally two-component mixtures

Operating principle

hamos EKS electrostatic separators make use of the differences in tribo-electric behaviour of individual plastics for separation.

The plastic mixture is fed via a vibrating conveyor into a so-called tribo-electric charging unit. Different plastics are charged here selectively and specifically according to the material, taking on a positive or negative charge. This effect is brought about by the passing of electrons from one particle to another.

After charging has taken place, the plastic mixture reaches a high tension field where the components are separated electrostatically into pure sorted fractions according to their different charges. Positive particles are attracted by a negative electrode, while negative particles are rejected and vice versa.

It is possible to separate all sorts of different plastics mixtures without great effort through minor modifications to the charging unit and by changing the position of the divider plate. PET-PVC and then PE-PP can, for example, be separated with the same machine.
